New Clinician Onboarding Training

Here are the steps for new clinicians to take to onboard as a SAL or NPCC therapist. If you onboard as an Associate, then you will also need to complete the New Medi-Cal provider steps on a separate page. Below are training videos and Instructional Resources for you to study in preparation for seeing clients at SAL/NPCC.

1. Obtain a Google Workspace and TherapyNotes account login from Michelle.
2. Obtain a Google Voice phone number (if you do not already have one).
3. Get a Live Scan with the SAL form
4. Submit all hiring documents you receive from Michelle

Google Workspace Orientation

Please watch these two videos to help you operate the google apps we commonly use at SAL/NPCC. We use Google Workspace for nonprofits. It supplies us with Gmail for all users; Google Drive (file storage library); Google Docs, Forms and Spreadsheets; Google Meet and Google Calendar.

HIPAA Info

All email between staff at SAL/NPCC is HIPAA compliant (from Someone@shinealight.info to SomeoneElse@shinealight.info). Google Meet is a HIPAA compliant Video-conferencing app. TherapyNotes also offers a HIPAA compliant telehealth platform and secure messaging with clients.

TherapyNotes Introduction

We have two training methods for Using TherapyNotes. There is this video, and there is a TherapyNotes Step by Step Written Instruction. Please use both, as they each cover some important and different points.

Onboarding Clients Training

This video covers the steps of handling a new client inquiry prior to the first session. The audio training covers how to go over the Informed Consent process at the start of the first session. These trainings are essential before you start seeing any clients at SAL/NPCC. A post-test will follow to assess your comprehension of the material. There is also a written instruction sheet covering these same steps. And an audio recording of how to go over the Informed Consent document with the client in the first session.

Clinical Empathy Training

This training is required of all new clinicians to ground them in the core skill of psychotherapy. It is not an “intro to empathy” video. It is a deep dive into a skill that few people really know how to teach.
